Venetian townhall wedding in Crete

Planning a destination wedding is not common among Greek couples. This couple though is an exception and holds a special place in our hearts as they’re our friends! And it’s so important to us when friends of ours trust us to plan their special day.

Their love story goes way back and their decision to get married in Crete has always been the bride’s dream. And it has been her dream for a very simple reason; those two have met in Crete 6 years ago during their summer vacations and we were present on that day, witnessing magic taking place!

Organizing a destination wedding was a last-minute decision as the bride was far along in pregnancy but she was determined to tie the knot where everything started. Our wedding planning agency arranged all the legalities associated with a civil wedding and booked the date at the Heraklion townhall which is located at an amazing Venetian building.

It was just a few of us who flew to Crete for the wedding, as the couple was already planning a church wedding and christening with more than 200 guests, as the Greek tradition is, for after the baby was born. So, it was an intimate and really emotional ceremony with many tears of joy.

Guess what! The wedding reception took place at the exact same taverna where the couple has originally met! The decoration was kept simple yet elegant, choosing seasonal fresh flowers. We couldn’t be happier for them; their wedding day was as relaxed as the day they first saw each other and fell in love!
